Dear Reader,

In Upstate, NY March has held true to it's slogan, "In like a lion, out like a lamb." This was witnessed for not only the weather, but for me personally, as well. Spring is here and I'm feeling good that I can pretty much say goodbye to winter and am very happy to announce that we finally have a 'Saliva Test' to offer - sort of... Actually, it's better!

This whole new concept of taking more responsibility for one's own oral health has taken on much more meaning for me since the beginning of the year. Culling the principles from the '7 Factors Transcript' had a lot to do with it after pouring over them for quite a while - they were good at a glance, but even better under a microscope! Anyway, I'll comment on that below. Thank you for taking the time to open this newsletter and I hope you find it helpful. -Tom Cornwell

We Now Have the 'Saliva' Tests!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
pgI am very happy to announce that I have finally been able to provide a test for oral pathogens - something which hundreds and hundreds of people have been asking about since getting the site up in 1997. If you read Dr. Nara's books, you know that he speaks of a 'Saliva Test' for strep mutans and lacto bacillus. I took this test in 1980 - chewed some paraffin, spit in a bottle and mailed it all in to a lab. Results of CFUs (colony formations) were returned giving an indication of the levels of bacteria present. I followed a hygeine protocol and re-tested after a period of time to check my progress.
Back in 1980, the tests ran about $25 each and we waited a couple of weeks for the results. The test now offered differs from the original in several ways but the user will find it much easier, faster and a little more detailed. For those of you who have been so patiently waiting, please read on.
Principles Culled from the 7 Factors Transcript
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NaraQuite a few people purchased and downloaded the '7 Factors Transcript' last month and I heard from many of you. Some were very impressed with the material and the principles culled from it - others were looking for more...

Let me begin by saying that Dr. Nara is 'deep' - if he gives a 5 minute statement, probably a week of thought goes into that statement. Such is the case when I asked him to do a short audio intro to the OraMedia site (see www.Mizar5.com). The '7 Factors' transcript was transcribed from a lecture given to the World Health Federation in 1986 and Dr. Nara spent a year preparing for it. Let's pull it apart and look at these principles...

Submissions for Homemade Pastes, Powders & Rinses

NaHCO3You know, sometimes if you want something done right, you just have to do it yourself. One of the most popular pages at the OraMedia web site is an old article on making your own toothpaste. For some reason people are very interested in doing just that. Last fall I received an email from a fellow from Bolivia looking for formulations without baking soda - a controlled substance in his country because it is used in the manufacture of cocaine. How can something as amazing and inexpensive as baking soda be so hard to come by? I guess this is another example of how we don't know how well we have it here in the U.S. : )~

I received seven submissions and you can view them, try them and vote on them. As I mentioned in an earlier newsletter, the one receiving the most reader votes will be awarded a ViaJet PRO oral irrigator from OraMedia (or anything from our product line of comparable value).  (Poll Ended)

Tom Cornwell Mizar5.comI wish to extend my thanks to all of you taking the time to open and read this newsletter and those of you taking the time to send your email in support of this endeavor. It really goes a long way. I also appreciate your patience in waiting for the 'saliva test' to be made available. Many of you have been writing for years and it was a long time coming, but is well worth the wait in helping you to get more of a handle on your on oral health.

I'm considering doing some radio broadcasts online via www.365live.com . Would broadcasted news, comment and lectures be something you'd listen to? Let me know. Until next time... Tom Cornwell, Elmira, NY
