Some Dollar-Store Bargains Could Prove Costly

Here is a story about non-FDA approved dental products getting into the U.S. market through local 'dollar stores.'  While the story focuses on high fluoride concentrates in toothpastes imported from Canada and Africa (up to 10 times that which is allowed in U.S. toothpastes), I want to turn the tables on the downside of the story.

I don't own a dollar store, but I think one can find some pretty good bargains there.  For example, Dr. Nara recommended the Butler toothbrush in some of his written materials.  I found the Butler brush (in my opinion, the best I've ever used) at a local 'Dollar Tree' for a buck!  Well, of course, I bought several...

Now, If you are supposed to change brushes every few weeks, this is certainly the way to go.  I thought about buying them up and selling them on this site, but you never know how long the store supply is going to last!

Certainly you should check the ingredients and expiration dates on the products you purchase anywhere (a real luxury we have in the U.S.) and this is pretty much common sense.  This news story certainly provides a good argument for that:  If you don't use fluoridated products, then, I guess you'd better not get your toothpaste at the 'dollar store.'  But don't overlook the true bargains that are there.

I used to use a particular OTC medication that cost me over $11 a bottle, even at WalMart!  I found a quantity of this medication sitting on the shelf at one of these stores for a dollar-a-piece.  I bought ten and saved over $100 that afternoon.  I should have bought them out, but I thought they'd have them in stock for a while...  nope.

The dollar stores in our area have a pretty good selection of oral health products, and I expect that it's pretty much the same anywhere in the U.S.  Take a few minutes and stop by one next time you are in the vicinity.

One thing you will most likely NOT find at a 'dollar store' is an oral irrigator - certainly not the ShowerPik or QuickPik, manufactured by my friend, Tom Spaulding.  What you WILL find is a tremendous deal Tom is offering to OraMedia customers (how does FREE sound?)...  Read on, you really can't pass this one up!
